JULY SOCCER TRANFER RUMOURS
Manchester United
United's Premier League and Champions League Double seemingly won't stop Sir Alex Ferguson further strengthening his squad this summer - with German winger Bastian Schweinsteiger the latest player to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old impressed during Germany's march to the Euro 2008 final and, according to the Daily Star, is wanted by United and Chelsea for a fee of around £10million.
The UK press continue to link United with a host of European football's top strikers with Lyon's Karim Benzema, Ajax front man Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz all being discussed. Prices range from £15million up to £30m.
Chelsea
Deco joins Scolari's Chelsea in £8m deal
Chelsea confirmed the signing of Portugal midfielder Deco from Barcelona last night. The playmaker had recently been told by the Catalan club he did not feature in their plans and had been linked with a move to the west London club regularly in recent years.
The 30-year-old becomes the club's first signing since Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed manager last month. Chelsea announced the news yesterday evening and are expected to confirm they have paid £8m to sign the two-time Champions League winner on a two-year deal.
The Brazil-born player's departure from the Nou Camp proved to be protracted due to Barcelona's valuation of around £11m for the player despite his age. That price seemed to have deterred Internazionale – who were also apparently interested – but Chelsea have managed to negotiate the price down.

Deco's arrival is Chelsea's second signing of the summer after his international team-mate Jose Bosingwa joined the club.
Arsenal
Rumours abound that Arsenal are lining up
Peter Crouch as a possible replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor if, as expected, the Togolese striker moves on to greener pastures.
Rumor Rating: 1 - You’re having a laugh! Crouch is not good enough to be a Liverpool starter, so how is he going to be picked by Wenger for Arsenal? That’s before you consider Wenger’s interest in other strikers (younger and technically superior to Crouch), and way before you consider that Eduardo and potentially Theo Walcott are both better than Peter Crouch.

Sticking with Arsenal, there’s only one reason that this speculation about Adebayor and Hleb keeps popping up and that’s because both players want more money. It might have to do with the fact that they consider themselves to be as important to Arsenal as Gallas / Fabregas, but as things stand they’re after better contracts and will jump if Arsenal can get the right money for them.
Wenger is also reported to have checked out
Mario Gomez and
Roque Santa Cruz.
Rumor Rating: 2 - Whatever for? Both players will get better offers from elsewhere if they were good enough to play for a top four Premier League side (read United). Sorry to say this, but Arsenal are probably going to either keep Adebayor or go without him next season. Still, both are players capable of playing at
Arsenal.
